FREEDOM ESPLANADE
The project is located in the heart of the Liberdade neighborhood, a place with a diverse and complex history. Our goal is to rescue these stories and create a space for recognition and encounter for a broad and diverse public. We propose a space of true "freedom", where anyone can freely visit and enjoy an open area with a fluid path. We want to promote free access and use of the area, making it a meeting place for humanity.
The project consists of three elements: a gastronomic space and street market located on Av. Liberdade, a cultural center facing the two streets Galvão Bueno and Rua da Glória, and finally, the connecting element, a public square that joins the two buildings and creates a valley in the center of the project.
This multilayered relationship between the square and the buildings and the neighborhood's surroundings is a metaphor for the history of Liberdade itself. The neighborhood is a territory that overlaps different presences over time, such as the black, the indigenous and, later, the Asian community such as Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, among others.
These historical layers blend and intertwine, just as the square and the buildings relate to the surrounding environment. This connection is a representation of the cultural and historical richness of the neighborhood, which is a heritage of the city of São Paulo and internationally.
